In 2011, the number of people aged 65years and over that were currently in full-time employment was more than double what it was has more than doubled in the last decade. According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS),the figure now sits at over 270,000. The number of part-time over 65’s has also doubled over the same period. These days, with property and pension becoming more and more unreliable, people have to turn to their methods to fund their retirement. There is a huge number of these over 65’s who are working from the comfort of their own home without this having too much of a negative effect on their health.

Consulting

If you have years of experience in your field, the most logical step would be to carryon working within it. However, if your jobs was a very hands on role, why not consider consulting businesses and individuals within the industry and passing down your knowledge. With the ease of access to resources online, setting up a new business is becoming common practice. However, the people behind these companies often have limited experience. This is where you could come in.

Telesales in your industry

If you feel as though consulting wouldn’t be right for you, why not consider being an advocate for your industry. Most big companies have a marketing department and telesales is a big part of this. If a company is employing staff to go out and promote their brand and product/service, who better to do it than experienced people within the industry.

Make money from a hobby

There are hundreds of different hobbies out there and each of them presents a money-making opportunity. You may find that you’ve got away with animals and could set up a new business looking after other people’s pets. You may also be fluent in more than one language and can offer lessons to others teaching them the basics. This is great because you get to pick your own hours and you don’t really need to invest in many tools or equipment.

There are a number of jobs that you are able to do from home that require little more than a phone line and maybe connection to the internet. These include anything from processing orders to basic research and even customer service tests. A number of top companies use phone services from employees’ own homes as a way of saving overhead costs.
