Today, pharmacists have become inevitable part of medical industry. Previously they use to work behind the counters of a local pharmacy filling prescriptions and dispensing medicines. Otherwise, they are found compounding, labelling bottles and counting tablets.

But now, the scope of their job has become much wider. They make decisions whether the prescribed drugs for a patient needs to be altered or not; advise doctors on drugs’ dosages and monitors complex drug regimens.

They play dual role in health care segment. They either work for a retail pharmacy or for hospitals. It is natural that the task of a pharmacist in a hospital is difficult.

Those working in hospitals often have to deal with emergency situations. They have to interpret and review prescriptions written by a doctor. A pharmacist generally studies a patient’s medical history to see whether prescribed drugs are suitable for him. They can even advise a doctor to change a drug if there is any dangerous side effect of it or it is not appropriate for a patient.

There is huge demand for pharmacists. There is also opportunity to earn high in this field. But the pharmacists are to be trained properly as pharmacy jobs are highly sensitive. People always prefer to appoint licensed, qualified and skilled pharmacists. Proper education is not the only thing that a pharmacist requires. As new drugs are discovered each day they have to learn a lot to keep themselves updated. Experiences polish the pharmacy skills. And this is true for each type of pharmacists.
